Newsletter September 2022

Dear Readers,

At the time of writing, the war in Ukraine has raged on for almost half a year. Almost 970,000 refugees have arrived in Germany so far, including 351,061 children and young people, the majority of whom are primary school age. The war has not lost any of its momentum. On top of this, heavy offensive attacks are predicted for tomorrow, 24th August, the day Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union.

Against this backdrop, it’s not easy for me to simply revert to the standard newsletter content. I do so not out of disregard for the terrible reality of war, loss and forced migration. This newsletter should not disguise the fact that there are two sides to my life and emotions: the external, perceived normality, and the inner unease at odds with everyday life.

Yours

Andreas Stähli

After all, each of the songs performed was an ode to the questions surrounding our existence. Once the concert was over, the two artists met their fans in the institute’s garden to discuss music and life over a glass of wine and other cold drinks. ...

Seizing the moment: a one-day seminar for the employees of Johannes hospice

The seminar marked the third event dedicated to jointly discussing and broadening our mission statement. Following the events on the guiding principles “Standing up for dignity” and “Demonstrating quality”, in June, we focused on the importance of making each moment count. I can often be quoted as saying that seizing the opportune moment is highly relevant to the work we carry out at the hospice. This idea is reflected in the title of our magazine Kairos, published four times a year, in the academy logo and, as goes without saying, in the sculpture of Kairos on the terrace of the building on Rudolfstraße. ...
