The Schober foundation, based in Münster, has donated 12,150 euros to help fund hospice and palliative care in Ukraine over a 12-month period. Prof. Dr Dr Otmar Schober was pleased to present the foundation’s donation to Dr Andreas Stähli, Academy Director at the Johannes hospice. Prof. Schober explained: “As a foundation established to promote Christian hospice work, it is our mission to support palliative care, which is urgently required in Ukraine due to the war at this time. Assistance is currently very much needed both in terms of care and education.”
The projects primarily focus on educational work: a nursing course, an ambitious book project on the topic of “Nutrition at the end of life”, a seminar on how to deal with trauma in palliative care, and conducting research and releasing an information brochure on hospice facilities in Ukraine. The nursing course and book project aim to equip staff in Ukraine with additional skills for palliative care. Due to the war and its consequences, the seminar and information brochure are a top priority at present. Over many years of partnership with the Palliative Care Center in Ivano-Frankivsk, we have established a level of trust that is key to helping these projects reach fruition.
