Newsletter December 2021

Dear Readers,

Autumn time is always a labour-intensive time for hospice work, and so it is this year. Furthermore we find ourselves confronted in all our departments with the additional challenges of the pandemic. At the same time, we are relieved that by keeping to prescribed hygienic regulations events attended in person are possible again. The latest example was the continuation of the process “mission statement in motion” about the subject “quality” and with 13 colleagues. It was a further special pleasure to me to give a talk at the invitation of the World Health Organisation’s bureau in Ashgabat on the occasion of the “World Hospice and Palliative Care Day” on the 9th of October. Turkmenistan is only beginning to build up palliative structures. This was a beautiful common bond to my two visits in 2018.

With all good wishes for a blessed Advent and Christmas season and a gentle start into the year 2022 I remain

Yours

Andreas Stähli

Day-to-day work at the hospice

“Every day is precious. Every moment is special.”

I would like to relate here two of these questions and Ursula Koeppe’s answers. ...

As a certified course leader it was a special concern for me to not simply change round the weeks of training to formats of e-learning. Consequently, much patience and understanding was necessary for its continuation, and that meant for all involved: the participants, the teachers, the employers and last not least the course leader. But now the work is done, even ...

A Journey to Hospices in Moldavia

In August, I had the special opportunity to visit Moldavia for five days. Maria Herzog, palliative care professional from Dortmund and coordinator for the hospice “Gloria” in Ceadir Lunga, accompanied me and gave me the occasion to get to know the hospices and their executives in this country. Establishing partnerships with East European hospices is one great aim of academy work at Johannes-Hospiz.

The hospice Gloria is situated in the south of the republic of Moldavia in the autonomous region Gagausia. The relief organisation “Wort und Tat” (“Word and Action”) (which belongs to the Deichmann Foundation) has been maintaining ...
